The Bee’s website describes its Publika outlet as ‘a space that knows no boundaries’. Yes, the Bee has always had a reputation for being one of those alt/art/music spots – but with its recent refurbishment, it’s also achieved the aesthetic look to match.

Malaysia’s F&B scene is infamous for riding on the tides of social media popularity and instagram-worthy attractiveness. But the market is now getting over-saturated with these and social media fads can only get you so far. What’s important about places like The Bee, and others like No Black Tie and Gaslight, is that they cultivate non-mainstream forms of art, music and sub-culture. The Bee’s makeover may have given it a surge from the instagram-chasing hipsters, but it’ll be its supportive space that keep most of their patrons coming back.
